Urbane Light Art in the Park – an unique illuminated work of art in the Petuelpark, Munich.

Based on plans by the landscape architects Bertram and Jühling, an exceptional, 5.5 ha large park landscape, the Petuelpark, was created in the north of Munich on the top of the Petueltunnel, 800m long and 60m wide. The Petuelpark was implemented in the context of the "Quivid" project, initiated from the country capital Munich.

Art – Landscape – Architecture
In the west, framed by the BMW towers, in the east by the new Jahn building with its two towers and in the south by several striking residential towers a completely new scenery has been created.

The park is divided into 3 levels. At the highest level linear paths, spacious lawns with accentuating rows of trees and three places determine the design. Inclined ramps and wide lawn steps generate a connection to the other two adjacent levels, consisting of gardens with the renaturated Nymphenburg – Biederstein – Canal in the south and sports fields and playgrounds in the north.

In 2005 the central place in the middle of the park was completed by a café constructed by the architect Uwe Kiessler. This is the second architectural “highlight” of the park besides the steel bridge from architects Auer and Weber.

The Petuelpark is shining: Light – Art - Technique
Dietmar Tanterl´s lighting concept for the Petuelpark contains the idea of urbanity as well as the landscape architecture and the remaining art in the Petuelpark.
The light from the traffic passing below the Park should be visible symbolically on the surface. The light art project above the Petueltunnel contains 72 steles which integrate 2 or 4 light systems each with XENARC © lamps of OSRAM that replaces the conventional park illumination.

Lighting Installation
From the very outset the lighting planners and engineers of OSRAM accompanied the development process of this light art project. Besides the artistic idea, the concept was supposed to meet a lot more requirements. From the beginning it was quite clear that the lighting should not only be a piece of art, but also it should fulfil the special needs of a park illumination. Additionally the project was to be implemented on a tight budget, so the technical solution had to be cost – effective.

Meanwhile the park has been opened and now every night 72 steles create a very special atmosphere in the Petuelpark.
