Osram grants license to Samsung Electro-Mechanics
Osram GmbH, Munich, and Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co. Ltd., Korea, recently signed a patent license contract. Osram has granted Samsung Electro-Mechanics a royalty bearing license to manufacture and sell white LEDs with conversion technology, for which Osram holds patents. Typical applications include backlighting for mobile phone.
Conversion technology for LEDs was developed by the Osram Opto Semiconductors subsidiary. It enables white LEDs to be produced using blue emitting InGaN (Indium Gallium Nitride) based chips and a suitable fluorescent converter.

The company had signed patent contracts with Nichia ,Rohm and Everlight and now for the first time has entered into a contract with a company from Korea.
