The new company, in which OSRAM is to have an 80 percent share, will operate under the name of Sunny World (HK) Limited and have its headquarters in Hong Kong.

The Chinese partner will be contributing a plant in the Shanghai conurbation to Sunny World Limited. With this latest venture, OSRAM is further expanding its production capacity for this region so that it can continue to participate in the strongly growing markets of Asia and Latin America.

Around 90 percent of this capacity is designated for the booming markets in Asia and Latin America.

Expansion also in India for the local market

As early as last year, OSRAM announced that it intended starting construction work on a second plant in India in 2007. This new plant in Kundli near New Dehli will focus on energy-saving products such as T5 fluorescent lamps particularly for the local Indian market.
