DOT-it do’s and don'ts
What you can and cannot do with DOT-it
DOT-it can be used almost anywhere. Thanks to the special adhesive surface from 3M it can be attached and reattached up to 20 times on a wide range of surfaces (leather, wood, plastic, metal or glass). It should not be attached to skin. It’s not that it is a health risk, it’s just that removing it may be unpleasant! After all, it’s designed for illumination not depilation.
DOT-it is splash-proof. It should not be used however in the bath or in aquariums.
DOT-it will stay firmly in place at temperatures from -17 to +48 °C. It is therefore ideal as a light for coolboxes but not suitable for inside ovens or microwaves.
DOT-it is sturdy and will happily accompany you when you go jogging, cycling, skating or snowboarding. It will continue to provide reliably light even in wet weather. However it is not approved for use on the road as the sole means of lighting on a bicycle.
DOT-it is useful in the car for lighting up the glove box or a roof box or for peering into the engine compartment after a breakdown. It can jazz up the look of a car, but only inside not outside. For road safety reasons it should not be placed inside the sun visor on the driver’s side. And please don’t hold it outside the window to indicate that you want to turn!
DOT-it is versatile in the home too. It will light up cabinets, shelves, cellars and garages. It can also be placed in the fuse box as an emergency light. It’s best not to use it as a recessed floor light, particularly if there are stiletto heels around.
DOT-it goes well with outdoor activities (hiking, camping and so on). It’s value as a morse code signal for UFOs has yet to be proved however. If anyone does manage to use DOT-it to contact visitors from outer space we’d love to know about it.
DOT-it is extremely sturdy and robust. This is thanks to the metal ring and the high-quality workmanship. Don’t be tempted to use it in anger. It can produce nasty bruises. And as even the best adhesives fail at some stage you should not attach a DOT-it permanently above your Dresden china or on the outside of a skyscraper.
