More power for film and TV studios

OSRAM presents new HMI lamps to light sets and stages

Lighting manufacturer OSRAM now offers two high-performance HMI metal halide lamps, which set the standards in professional studio lighting in terms of power and endurance. The stars on the set – OSRAM HMI 24000W/DXS and OSRAM HMI 1800W/SE XS – are presented at the international “Prolight + Sound” trade fair for event technology in Frankfurt am Main from 1-4 April.

Munich lighting specialist OSRAM has been a leading director in the film and TV lighting market for years. In 2007 the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences gave OSRAM the Primetime Emmy® Engineering Award for outstanding technological development in HMI technology. With their light output of almost 100 lumens per watt, colour rendering index of Ra > 90 and a daylight-like colour temperature of 6,000 Kelvin, the new HMI lamps create ideal lighting conditions for recordings and performances. In addition, they are hot restrikable, dimmable and can be easily used in Fresnel luminaires. Their distinguishing feature is the black base, which shows they are part of the OSRAM Professional Line, the lamp series representing the highest standards of quality and performance.

More than two million lumens

The new HMI 24000W/DXS displays its strengths especially in large-scale location shots. The double-base HMI 24000W/DXS owes its high performance of more than two million lumens to the recently developed sealing foil system with four molybdenum foils, which is also implemented in the current HMI 18000W/DXS. Together with OSRAM’s eXtreme Seal technology the lamp’s thermal resistance is especially impressive: the maximum permitted pinch temperature in the lamp is 450˚C. The average lifespan of the HMI 24000W/DXS is around 375 hours.

Spot on

Single-base OSRAM HMI 1800W/SE XS are suitable for use as spotlights in TV and photo studios as well as in stagecraft. With the robust G38 base it enables new higher performance and compact spotlights to be developed with considerable efficiency in this power class. The eXtreme Seal technology in the HMI 1800W/SE XS also provides for a maximum permitted pinch temperature of 450˚C. With its lifespan of around 750 hours it guarantees problem-free recording sessions.

Further highlights from OSRAM’s extensive product range can be seen on its stand at Prolight & Sound in Frankfurt, Hall 9.0, Aisle B, Stand 26 from 1 to 4 April 2009.
